The 5 mm ultrafiltration (UF) membranes from Berghof Membranes are excellent in treating low-strength wastewater that contains a low amount of solids.

The smaller inner diameter of the 5 mm membrane tubes means more membranes can be packaged into a membrane module. Further, the greater packing density means a larger membrane area can be achieved with less modules, meaning that plants can be designed with a smaller footprint while still achieving the desired flux.

Crossflow applications with low-strength wastewater can be processed and concentrated up to 10 g/l.

Berghof Membranes offers a variety of membrane modules made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) and polyvinylchloride (PVC). Both module types are available in backwashable and non-backwashable configurations.

Non-backwashable 5 mm membranes modules

For direct filtration crossflow applications in which high strength wastewater is pushed through the 5 mm membranes with high crossflow velocity and pressure rates, our non-backwashable membranes are the ideal choice. Our membrane durability and excellent fouling resistance ensure long membrane life and optimal membrane performance.

Backwashable 5mm membranes modules

Traditional wastewater treatment systems rely heavily on Clean-In-Place (CIP) protocols using relatively large quantities of chemicals which are costly and require operational shut-downs.. when used in combination with the intelligent software technology by Berghof Membranes, allows the wastewater system to operate at a lower velocity, thus consuming less energy. During the backwash, in which clean water is pushed outside-in, fouling is removed from the membranes module by module. Therefore, the system continues to produce permeate during backwash because the backwash procedure is performed sequentially by the module. If backwash with permeate doesn’t eliminate fouling, the intelligent software will automatically initiate a chemical-enhanced backwash (CEB).
