B- Smart UF Skid

As manufacturing industries grow to meet strict environmental standards and the demands of an ever-increasing population, the need for quality process water used in manufacturing processes, and the high volumes of effluent/wastewater resulting from these processes, have led companies to invest in more efficient water treatment systems.

Challenges for industries

Because of the high-strength nature of industrial flows, only few membrane filtration technologies are capable of handling the variable and high-fouling wastewater and process streams. Frequent maintenance, low output and high energy costs are just a few of the problems that inhibit long-term industrial sustainability and growth.

To overcome these challenges in membrane filtration there is a need for a reliable, robust, and flexible wastewater treatment technology. Unlike other filtration solutions, our B-SMART® platform is positioned outside a bioreactor and utilizes variable crossflow velocity to keep the membranes working at optimal conditions. However, this is not the only reason why our technology is frequently applied to resolve the typical challenges in industrial effluent treatment and reuse applications. Moreover, our systems offer greater ease in cleaning, more reliable output, and overall superior robustness.

Tubular membrane ultrafiltration is applied for process and wastewater treatment in external configurations, mainly included in technologies such as MBR, AnMBR, Direct Filtration, and Zero Liquid Discharge.

Challenges with traditional filtration systems

Treatment of industrial streams, landfill leachate and digestate utilize membrane filtration paired with the biological treatment of wastewater streams. In such cases, traditional submerged filtration systems come with multiple inherent challenges.

B-SMART® External membrane skid

To overcome these challenges Berghof Membranes pioneered the external principle in which tubular membrane filtration systems are placed OUTSIDE the feed tank or bioreactor, thereby resolving the inherent problems with submerged systems.

B-SMART® is a proprietary platform, designed specifically for our OEM partners that delivers complete and modular systems to solve the challenges in the treatment of industrial streams/effluent. Plant owners are looking for cost-effective and reliable solutions that can support industrial growth. Plant operators want easy-to-maintain systems that can meet strict discharge standards. B-SMART® helps OEMs to deliver both. Available in multiple configurations and with various functionalities, each B-SMART® system is expertly engineered with unique features and advantages to provide the flexibility, adaptability, and reliability you and your customers want.

Part of the B-SMART® is the intelligent software that enhances the performance, efficiency, robustness, and maintenance of an external tubular UF System. This intelligent software is a real game-changer that reduces the energy requirements traditionally associated with conventional crossflow filtration. B-SMART® software ensures that the system will operate at the lowest possible crossflow velocity while maintaining desired flux, controlling fouling, and minimizing membrane plugging.

Benefits

B-SMART® Intelligent Software and Engineered Systems

Berghof Membranes developed the B-SMART® intelligent software platform to further assist our OEM-Partners in offering unique and advanced solutions to their customers.

B-SMART® system configurations

B-SMART® control algorithms are key to reaching the highest sustainable fluxes. Both Eco and Performance systems can be designed in single or double loop configurations with 10-inch, 3, or 4-meter length modules to handle up to 2.000 m3/day per skid.

B-SMART® One

For small projects up to 500 m3/day per skid
B-SMART® One systems are the best choice for those small projects (generally up to 500 m3/day per skid) where the most weighted values are robustness, simplicity and low CAPEX. – Field tested for many years in the most challenging streams.
